Canadian Minister of Public Safety, The Honorable Stockwell Day,announced October as Cyber Security Awareness Month for Canadians.  In a media release, he said, in part:

"More and more Canadians are turning to the Internet for information, business transactions and personal use. While the Internet brings many benefits and opportunities, it has also introduced new forms of criminal activity," Day said.

"Cyber Security Awareness Month is part of a collective effort to raise cyber security awareness. I am pleased to take this opportunity to acknowledge these efforts and to encourage Canadians to make online safety a regular practice.

Cyber Security Awareness Month draws attention to the need for individuals, families, businesses, private and public sector organizations to become aware of the risks, and of the tools and practices available to help them stay safe online.

Canada's New Government also introduced a plan to protect Canadians from identity theft by announcing that Criminal Code amendments will be proposed when Parliament resumes, giving police the tools they need to prevent identity theft before it happens".

Way to go, Canada!
