Second Life-Virtual Fantasy

UK authorities are tracking child sex predators on virtual online fantasy sites.

Second Life and similar websites, use "avatars," or virtual personalities, to create different fantasies, including sexual ones.  "Wonderland,"  a sexual playground, is a concerning section where children can be seen offering sex. Characters are offered chances to rape women in dungeons and other areas.

Second Life prohibits sex in public areas, but does allow sex in private sections and "sex clubs" or bordellos.

7% of people between the ages of 12 and 24 regularly visit one of these virtual websites.  Years ago, authorities in the UK broke up a private Internet club called "Wonderland" where more than 200 pedophiles from many different countries had exchanged about 750,000 images of child sex abuse.

Authorities in England are debating whether to outlaw computer-generated imagery of child abuse, hard-core porn and torture scenes. Some believe those who use the virtual world, especially pedophiles, might actually carry out some of these activities in real life. Germany is investigating simulated child molestation and real child pornography in Second Life.
