Cyber Bully Policies
One on my main goals for taking on the position of ROE Internet Safety Coordinator, was to create and implement an anti cyber-bullying policy throughout my school district, and hopefully, the entire region.
Along with the Macomb Online Safety Team(M.O.S.T), we are presently working on that as of this writing.
One day soon, I hope an anti cyber-bullying policy will be implemented in our entire nation.
A Aug, 2006 article from Chicago's Police Superintendent Phil Cline and President of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, Larry Burnson :
Call for Bullying Prevention Programs in Every School
“Illinois law enforcement, kids, parents and schools are standing up to cyber bullying,” said Chief Burnson. “With a bullying prevention program in every Illinois school, we can make school hallways and the Internet highway safer for all kids.”
Tim Carpenter, State Director of FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS ILLINOIS, said “In the coming school year, more than half a million kids in Illinois will be victims of cyber bullying. Law enforcement leaders in Illinois and across the country urge that every school in America should have a proven bullying prevention program to keep kids safe.”

I think that cyber bullying is one of the biggest threats in our schools (here in Australia or elsewhere I am sure). As a teacher it is so much harder to deal with than face to face bullying partly because those involved cannot be separated in the usual sense of the word. The fact that once it is written in an email, on the web etc it stays around is also a big issue. Having a strong well communicated policy is such an important element in the fight against it - good luck and I hope to read more about your progress.
Thanks for a great comment, Coach!!!
