Cyber bullying teachers in Toronto

Two students at Toronto Canada's Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute, have been suspended for posting derogatory comments about teachers on Facebook, which has  a "zero-tolerance policy" regarding cyber bullying.

"We are in the business of running safe and caring schools and safe and caring learning environments." said Superintendent Anne Kerr.

Cathy Wing of the Media Awareness Network said online bullying and intimidation is a growing issue, but officials are unsure how to tackle the problem.

"This is a really challenging thing," she said. "Most of these activities are happening off school property, but they are impacting a great deal in the classroom"

More suspensions could come(see my earlier posting regarding 19 Toronto school students suspended last month for cyber bullying a Principal)

When it comes to online safety issues, we often hear about online predators, but cyber bullying is a rapidly growing problem, no matter where you live.  It is imperative, we as parents as educators, discuss this with our children, and watch for the warning signs.

Please encourage your school district to implement a anti cyber bullying policy!!!
