The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) announced earlier this week, that it has just received its 475,000th report to its CyberTipline, which has led to the arrest and successful prosecution of thousands of offenders.

Although there are 7 categories for the CyberTipline, more than 89 percent of the reports received were regarding child pornography, which according to the NCMEC, has grown consistently in recent years.

The statistics surrounding child pornography are disturbing.  Approximately 58% of children used in child pornography today are prepubescent and 6% are infants.  According to the NCMEC, victims are becoming younger and younger and the images seen are becoming more and more violent.

The CyberTipline was created in 1998 and is mandated by Congress. It's the United States “9-1-1” for reporting sexual exploitation of children. NCMEC is a nonprofit organization that works in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

The CyberTipline website address is: Cyber TipLine
