Under a proposed Connecticut law,  those who service or work on personal computers, will be required to report child abuse, just as 37 other professions in Connecticut( educators, doctors, counselors, etc) who work closely with children, to the Ct. Department of Children and Families.

Several other states including Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina and South Dakota, require computer technicians to report child pornography. Connecticut and California are considering legislation that includes computer technicians to the list of "mandated reporters" who must alert authorities regarding child abuse and neglect.

In New Britain CT, an alert led to a police investigation which uncovered photos and videotapes of young children being drugged and raped. The suspect was arrested and convicted of multiple charges.

In Connecticut, a computer technicians is "any person who services or repairs personal computers."
