Ignorance...
I ran across another disturbing comment today, regarding cyber bulling:
"Anyone who starts a thread about Cyber Bullying is just a Cyber Crybaby. No one can be bullied in this forum. You aren`t tied to your chairs. You aren`t forced to read and respond. You elect to sign in, elect to open threads, elect to respond.
The only ones who cry about bullying are the ones who work up the grit to mix it up with someone else and lose miserably. Then all of a sudden, they`ve been bullied.
Whiners make me sick, and they deserve the ridicule and disdain of the entire forum."
My response:
"I am the Internet Safety Coordinator for my school district and entire region. It saddens me to read comments like this, regarding cyber bullying. Having spent the past two years, dedicating my life by educating children as well as teachers and parents on issues regarding online safety, cyber bullying is a real concern that can have devastating results.
Although turning off your computer or electronic device, may appear to some, to take care of the issue that in fact, is not true. While the target of cyber bullying may not choose to read what is being posted about him or her, the information is still available for MANY other people to read.
Cyber bullying is a rapidly growing concern that we must all take seriously.
Thank you. "
As I have stated so many times, bullying, no matter what form, is a serious matter and needs to be dealt with seriously and swiftly. I am truly saddened and dismayed by those who think otherwise.

It also surprises me how many people just don't "get it". As a 19 year old Australian uni student, I've spent the last two years trying to make parents and educators here understand that they can't confiscate their kids' mobile phones or internet access. Where your generation (or their generation) sees the internet as a tool for getting work done, these kids (my generation) have grown up with the technology all around them. The mobile phone and internet access acts as a SOCIAL LIFELINE to their peer group. We have whole conversations over these mediums - friendships are made and broken over these mediums - and you can't reasonably expect kids to voluntarily remove themselves from that.
Hi Chris. Thank you so much for your comment.
You are right, some do not "get it". By taking computers or other electronic devices away, that wont necessarily solve the problem. That is perhaps one reason why children do not tell a parent if they have been bullied electronically--they are afraid the parents will take away their "lifeline"....
Thanks again!
Hi Jacer,
Reading this just gives me a knot in my gut. I don't even have kids and it's difficult to swallow.
I read that on Digg the other night where they nailed 700 pedophiles. There have been others as well in the past few days. 700 less sickos in the world of internet ruining children's lives.
Glad I was able to help with the info for you. It was just by chance that I saw Ev's shoutout on Mybloglog for you the other night, and it all fell into place.
