FBI Innocent Images National Initiative

We've all heard by now that some sexual predators using the Internet to disguise their true intentions.The FBI Innocent Images National Initiative, based in Maryland, combines FBI agents and local police in proactive task forces around the United States, performing online undercover investigations to combat the proliferation of child pornography and child sexual exploitation (CP/CSE).

Electronic telecommunications have become one of the most common techniques pedophiles and predators use to share illegal photographic images of minors and to lure children into illicit sexual relationships.

According to the FBI website, between 1996-2006, the Innocent Images National Initiative has recorded the following statistical accomplishments:

Number of Cases Opened  ......17,691

Number of Information & Indictments .........5,752

Number of Arrests, Locates & Summons ............ 7,700

Number of Convictions & Pretrial Diversions ..............5,840
