Cyber bullying and South Korea
Last month, South Korea began enforcing a new law aimed at combatting cyberbullying. Real names and social security numbers will now be required. Daum, a portal site with 38 million users, said it had changed its site so that users must submit their real name and social security number before messages are accepted.
Under the "Internet real-name system," the country's major portals and news media websites will be compelled to record the true identities of users when they post entries and to disclose contact details if someone wants to sue them for libel or infringement of privacy.
Two celebrities, TV star Jeong Da-Bin and pop singer Yuni, reportedly committed suicide earlier this year from being cyber bullied.
